Dental implants are the best tooth-replacement option available, thanks to their incredible stability and strength. These titanium screws anchor in your jawbone through a process called osseointegration, allowing the biocompatible metal to bond with your jaw. Once your implants are secure, they provide a strong foundation for restorations such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. But to secure a denture, patients need a full arch of dental implants. To most, the idea of a full mouth of metal sounds daunting. But at Sonora Dentist, we use mini dental implants to restore your smile! These small titanium posts take up less space in your jaw, have a minimally invasive placement process, and allow patients like you to enjoy a more comfortable recovery.

Placing a Full Arch of Mini Dental Implants
When placing dental implants, we’re not only replacing the upper portion of your tooth, but also the lower part. This portion, known as a tooth root, lies below your gums, embedded in your jawbone to secure your smile. Additionally, they provide essential stimulation to keep your jawbone healthy. Without stimulation, your bone will shrink over time. But by replacing these roots with dental implants, we stabilize your smile and keep your jawbone healthy.
At Sonora Dentist, we use a minimally invasive procedure to place mini dental implants. But before beginning your treatment, we’ll need to assess your smile. During your free consultation, we’ll perform a thorough dental examination and take 3D digital X-rays to assess your jawbone. If you have enough bone to support mini implants (which most patients do), then we will create a custom treatment plan for your smile.
Mini implants are single-piece titanium screws, allowing us to place them in just one appointment. At this appointment, we will use a local anesthetic to numb your smile. Then, we’ll create a small pilot hole through your gums and into your jawbone. Afterward, we will secure your implant through the opening, where it will immediately begin to osseointegrate.
Thanks to their minimally invasive placement process and sleek screw design, mini implants can support a temporary restoration the same day they’re placed. And typically, by the next day, your final denture restoration will be ready to anchor on your implants!
Your Mini Implant Denture Options in Sonora, CA
At Sonora Dentist, we offer 2 main types of implant dentures. One is the snap-in denture, and the other is the roundhouse bridge.
A snap-in denture is a type of prosthetic that fits over your implants.
Each denture—both upper and lower—has little housings (or openings) on the base. And by securing these housings over the “O-ball” head of the mini implants in your jaw, we can keep your denture secure. This connection provides a very stable, firm fit for the denture.
However, snap-in dentures are still removable, allowing easy cleaning and maintenance.
If you decide you want a more permanent full arch dental implant solution, we typically use a “roundhouse” restoration. These prosthetics are similar to a denture, but are more like a bridge thanks to their sleek design. At our office, we use zirconia for our roundhouse bridges. This durable material enhances the functionality, durability, and aesthetics of your smile.
To secure your roundhouse, we place as many implants as possible in the upper or lower arch to create a stable foundation for your final restoration. A roundhouse bridge, unlike a denture, has a sleek design that doesn’t require most of the denture base. Instead, it secures directly on your implants over your gums to give your smile a natural look and feel.
Depending on your preference, we will provide you with a semi-permanent roundhouse bridge or a permanent roundhouse bridge. While you never remove either (giving your smile a more natural feel), a semi-permanent roundhouse bridge uses fewer implants and is taken out by us during routine dental visits.
