Dental Fillings in Sonora, CA
In this video, Dr. Paul Berger addresses common questions about silver fillings and explains why we now use bonded, tooth-colored materials as the modern standard in dental care.
Many patients come to our practice with questions about their silver fillings and whether they should be replaced. If a silver filling is in good condition and functioning well, we typically do not recommend replacing it. However, silver fillings do not have any bonding to the tooth, so over time they can begin to break or crack.
When we remove an old silver filling or address a new cavity, we use modern bonding techniques. We bond the tooth and place a tooth-colored filling that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The last time we placed a silver filling in our practice was in the mid-1980s. Bonding has become an integral part of contemporary dentistry, and it is a standard procedure you should expect when you have fillings done today.
