Can I Get a Dental Implant the Same Day as an Extraction?
In this video, Dr. Berger discusses how we often extract a tooth and place an implant with a temporary crown the same day; an approach especially helpful for patients needing urgent care before travel.
We are often able to perform extractions and place implants on the same day, usually with bone grafting around the implant to support healing before we place a crown.
In some emergency situations, if a tooth has been shattered, we can remove it and place the implant immediately, providing a temporary crown during the healing process. Once healing is complete, we replace the temporary crown with a well-fitting permanent crown.
We have found this approach particularly helpful for patients preparing to travel abroad, such as to Europe. Many of these patients come in the day before their trip and ask, “Can you help me?” We have successfully accomplished this on several occasions, and the results have been very favorable.
