Are Same-Day Dental Implants Right For You?

Mini dental implants are the only FDA-approved implants designed for same-day use. However, based on my experience, we typically do not recommend placing immediate pressure or load on these implants. Regardless of whether the implant is a conventional or small-diameter type, it requires a healing period known as osseointegration. During this process, the bone grows around the implant, stabilizing it much like the root of a natural tooth.

Therefore, we usually advise allowing time for healing before applying load to the implant. In emergency situations where aesthetics are a concern, we can temporarily keep the implant out of bite, which allows the patient to function well until proper healing has occurred.
