How to Use Your Home Whitening Kit

With our easy-to-use home whitening kit, getting the brilliantly bright smile you’ve always wanted has never been easier. Simply follow the directions below, and you’ll start to see the remarkable difference teeth whitening can make to the complexion of your smile after just one treatment. While at-home teeth whitening kits are incredibly safe to use, it’s important that you carefully follow the directions to prevent any unintended side effects.

Step 1.) Before Treatment
Thoroughly brush and floss your teeth immediately before starting your teeth whitening treatment. The whitening gel used to improve the complexion of your smile is most effective applied to clean teeth.

If this is your first time using the trays, make sure to try placing the trays over your teeth without any gel to ensure they fit properly. Between uses, make sure to thoroughly clean and dry your whitening trays. Moisture reduces the effectiveness of the whitening gel, so always make sure the trays are dry before using.

Step 2.) Apply the Whitening Gel
When applying the whitening gel to the tray, make sure not to fill the tray up entirely. Place just small amount of the gel approximately half way up on the inner front surface of the tray. Repeat this process for each tooth in the tray. Do not spread the gel around inside the tray. When finished applying the gel, recap the application syringe for use during your next treatment until empty.

Step 3.) Insert the Whitening Tray
Place the whitening tray into the mouth and over the surface of your teeth. Once in position, firmly apply pressure to the tray to ensure it fits securely over the surface of your teeth. Gently remove any excess gel that seeps out of the tray from the surface of your gums using a clean finger or tissue. Leave the tray in place for as long as instructed.

Step 4.) Wear Time
Our Sonora cosmetic dentist recommends wearing the trays for between 30 minutes to 1 hour if you have not whitened your teeth before. You can extend the wear time during future treatments if you don’t experience any tooth sensitivity. Carefully read the individual instructions on the whitening gel you are provided and follow as directed. Never wear the trays longer than directed as prolonged exposure to the gel may cause tooth sensitivity.

Step 5.) After Whitening Care
Gently remove the tray from your teeth and thoroughly rinse your mouth with water. Quickly brush to remove any gel that might linger on the surface of your teeth. Make sure to continue brushing and flossing as normal between your whitening treatments to ensure the best results.

Step 6.) Caring for Your Whitening Trays
It’s important to keep your whitening trays in good condition. After each treatment, clean your trays using a toothbrush or Q-tip in cold water. Cleaning in hot water could cause the plastic to become warped. Allow the trays to air dry in an open space with plenty of light. Keeping your trays in a dark, enclosed space while drying will only encourage the growth of bacteria and mold. You can store the whitening gel with your tray or refrigerate the gel to extend its shelf life.
